I've started working at an association for makers of industrial lubricants and related products. "Lubricant" is in the organization's name, and no points for guessing what's going through my mind.

To be fair, from my perspective everything in DH is mostly a placeholder until Neville comes through the picture frame....

Definitely this time there was 24" on my car and on the surrounding ground. And part of a tree came down on my building's parking lot. (Space 1 bore the brunt; my car is in Space 3. And I feel rather guilty; just before the crash I was fretting about the branches possibly scraping against my apartment window or air conditioner, and wondering if the condo board could be persuaded to pay for some pruning. This took care of the matter, in a more thorough way than I had even considered.)

In the meantime, I have what I'm pretty sure is a cold. As long as the cough syrup, vodka, and orange juice hold out this probably is a good time to take to my bed. I'm crossing my fingers that by Sunday morning the major roads will be open and the buses will be running, so I can go to the store and stock up on juice and chicken soup. Here's hoping that everyone reading this is safe and comfortable right now.

And probably some of what landed there drifted to points south. I'm damn lucky I don't need to be anywhere before Monday morning (and I'd be going there by bus anyways).

The plan:
Saturday: Let the storm snow itself out
Sunday: Sweep the snow off my car (just finished), and let the sun do what it can to melt this mess
Monday: Take the snow shovel and do some digging out
Tuesday: Continue digging if necessary; by then the roads should be clear enough to go out.
Difficulty: I'm almost out of beer (OH NOES)

A respectfully intended question to those in Colorado, Vermont, Alaska, etc.: HOW do you deal with this sort of thing on a regular basis? Washington, DC normally doesn't get this much snow in three consecutive winters!

1. Most of you have probably heard that pioneering televangelist Oral Roberts has died.

2. In case you didn't hear, the DC Council voted to legalize same-sex marriage. (The mayor has sworn to sign the bill, but Congress has the right to kill DC legislation when they want.)

3. Am I the only person to think these two events might somehow be related? (Don't mind me; I've been terribly bored, stuck at home without work for the last two weeks.)

Title: The Adventure of the Employed House
Fandom: House, MD
Rating: PG
Word Count: 502
Summary: "Of all the offices in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."
A/N: Written for the September 2009 [livejournal.com profile] housecuddylolol House/Cuddy Crack!Fic-a-Thon. Some thematic references to the episode "Top Secret" (3x16). The title is a reference to the Sherlock Holmes short story "The Adventure of the Empty House." Warning: a bad pastiche of hard-boiled crime fiction follows.

An early December dusk was falling on the seedier side of Princeton. A saxophone could be heard noodling on a minor-key theme.

The job I was on was supposed to be for three months. Instead I was sent home after three weeks. And there may be "issues" behind this "separation," but nobody can tell me anything before Monday morning--JUST the thing before a weekend.

Is anyone on AIM? I could do with a good chat, and preferably being taken out of myself.
